When Jack and Lila bought the old house on Hollow Ridge Lane, they had no idea it came with a sinister past. The house had sat empty for years, shrouded in rumors about the previous tenants, a family that had vanished without a trace one chilly October night. Jack shrugged off the gossip, dismissing it as small-town folklore. Lila, though uneasy, convinced herself that they could turn the aging house into their dream home.
It wasn’t until their second night there that they noticed the security cameras.
The cameras were small, almost imperceptible, discreetly tucked into corners of the living room, kitchen, and bedrooms. At first, Jack assumed they were dummies left behind, but when he powered up the dusty monitor in the basement, he was surprised to find that they were still functional, recording every creak and shadow of the house.
“What do you think they were watching?” Lila asked, staring at the grainy black-and-white footage on the screen.
“Who knows?” Jack said with a shrug. “Maybe they just forgot to turn them off.”
That night, they decided to review some of the archived footage. Jack fast-forwarded through hours of mundane recordings, empty rooms, flickering lights, and the occasional scurrying of mice. But then, at 2:13 a.m., the screen froze on something that made Lila’s breath hitch.

In the footage, a woman was standing in the hallway outside their bedroom.
She was tall, with stringy black hair that hung over her face, wearing a tattered white nightgown stained with something dark. She didn’t move, didn’t blink. She just stood there, staring directly at the camera.
“Pause it,” Lila whispered, her voice trembling. Jack obeyed, his fingers shaking as he hit the pause button. The woman’s face was obscured, but there was something horribly wrong about her. Her fingers, impossibly long, were pressed against the wall, as though she were leaning into it.
“Who is that?” Lila asked.
“Maybe it’s a prank,” Jack suggested weakly, though he didn’t sound convinced.
They rewound the footage, hoping to catch her entering the frame, but there was no sign of her approach. One second, the hallway was empty. The next, she was just there.
Lila wanted to stop watching, but Jack insisted they keep going. Over the next few nights of archived footage, they saw her again and again—standing in different rooms, always at 2:13 a.m., always staring at the camera. In one clip, she was standing over their bed.
“She’s not real,” Jack said, trying to convince himself as much as Lila. “It’s an old recording. It’s not live.”
But then, something changed. On the fifth night, they reviewed the footage from that very evening. Everything looked normal—until 2:13 a.m.
There she was, standing in the hallway, right outside their door. But this time, she moved. Slowly, deliberately, she lifted her head, her hair sliding back to reveal a face twisted in rage—her eyes sunken and black, her mouth stretched into an impossible grin. She reached out, her claw-like fingers scraping against the door.
And then she looked directly at the camera.
“She can see us,” Lila whispered, backing away from the monitor.
Suddenly, the screen went black. The power flickered, and for a moment, the house was plunged into darkness. Jack grabbed Lila’s hand, and they stumbled up the basement stairs, hearts racing.
When they reached the living room, the television turned on by itself. Static filled the screen, and then, slowly, an image appeared—a live feed of the hallway outside their bedroom.
The woman was there.
But this time, she wasn’t looking at the camera. She was looking at the basement door.
“Run!” Jack shouted, pulling Lila toward the front door. But before they could reach it, they heard a creak from the top of the stairs.
They froze, turning slowly to look up.
The woman was standing there, her head tilted at an unnatural angle, her mouth moving soundlessly. Her feet didn’t touch the floor.
And then, with a bone-chilling shriek, she launched herself down the stairs.
Jack and Lila barely made it out of the house. They ran down the street, not stopping until they reached the neighbor’s house, pounding on the door until someone let them in. When they tried to explain what had happened, the neighbor’s face grew pale.
“You saw her,” he said quietly. “The woman who lived there before you. She and her family vanished, but people say she never really left.”
The next day, Jack and Lila returned to the house with a police escort to retrieve their belongings. But when they entered, they found the security monitor smashed to pieces, the footage erased.
Only one camera was still functional—the one in the hallway.
And on the last recording, timestamped 2:13 a.m., they saw something that haunted them forever.
The woman, standing at the foot of their bed, whispering three words over and over again:
“Get. Out. Now.”
